A quilt of this would be best done in rows rather than in blocks, with Row One and alternate rows consisting of a Quarter Square/Plain Square/ Quarter Square, etc, and Row Two and alternate even rows consisting of a Plain Square/Quarter Square/Plain Square etc,...as shown at left...Terrific one to do in Reproduction Civil War Fabrics, by the way!

 

...or  you might consider actually making blocks, as shown below!( I used colored squares for the middle rows only...)
