** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

Cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 18" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles. Then cut the Color 1  5"  x 20" strip into sixteen 2-1/2" squares. Next cut the Color 1  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares. Stack the 2-7/8" squares and cut in half once on the diagonal to make eight Half Square Triangles...

 

Now cut the Color 2  5" x 18" strip into eight 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles. Next cut the Color 2  2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares. Stack the 2-7/8" squares and cut in half once on the diagonal to make eight Half Square Triangles. Cut the Color 2  4-1/2" x 18" strip into four 4-1/2" squares. Lastly cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 30" strip into twelve 2-1/2" squares...

(...whew... now you can take a cutting break and have a cuppa tea!)

 

 Shown here enlarged, sew pairs of Color 1 and Color 2 Half Square Triangles right sides together into Half Squares using a 1/4" seam allowance. Press seams to the darker sides. You'll be making eight of these Half Squares, which should measure 2-1/2"...now on to Page 2!
