For the block's center unit, sew the four half squares, the four Color 2 small squares, and the one remaining Color 1 square together as shown at left. Use all scant 1/4" seams. Trim this back to measure 3-1/2" if needed...

Now lay out all the block's units as shown at left.  Sew three horizontal rows, still using scant 1/4" seams. Press the top and bottom row seams to the middle, and the center row sea, to the outside. Join these rows to complete the block!

The quilt is four blocks by five, with a simple straight border and binding
