** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  2-1/2" x 34" strip into four 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" rectangles...

Next mark and cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 18" strip into four  2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...

Then cut the Color 3  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares. Also cut one Color 3  4-1/2" square...

Now mark and cut the Color 4  2-1/2" x 18" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles...

Next mark and cut the Color 1, Color 2 and Color 4  2-1/2" x 20" strips into eight 2-1/2" squares of each...

Then sew the Color 2 and Color 3  2-1/2" x 20" strips together along one long edge, right sides together, using a scant 1/4" seam. Press to darker side. Mark and cut at 2-1/2" intervals

Sew pairs of these together to make the corner four patches, again using scant 1/4" seams and pressing to one side. Make four units like this...

Now place a small Color 4 square right sides together along one end of a Color 1 rectangle, right sides together and outside edges lined up. On the back of the top square lightly draw the diagonal and sew ON this drawn line. Cut off the excess seam allowance and press the remainder towards the rectangle. Repeat this with another Color 4 square on the other end, having the diagonal line in the opposite direction. Make four units like this...on to Page 2!
