** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First, cut your Color 2  3-1/2" x 14" strip into four 3-1/2" squares...

Then cut your Color 1  3-1/2" x 31-1/2"  strip into nine 3-1/2" squares...

Now stack your Color 1 and Color 2  4-1/4" x 12-3/4" strips, with edges aligned and right sides together. Mark the squares at the 4-1/4" points. Mark the diagonals from the top left to the bottom right, as shown left.  Next, sew,  1/4" above and below the marked diagonal using a scant 1/4"seam,  in the direction shown, pivoting at the square lines.  Cut apart at the 4-1/4" points and ON the marked diagonals. Then use a ruler  to cut each of these once more, making your quarter triangles! (That was how you Speed Piece Quarter Triangles !)

Then cut your Color 1 3-7/8" x 23-1/4" strip into six 3-7/8" squares, and further bisect these on the diagonal, being careful NOT to stretch fabrics...

Sew a quarter triangle to a half triangle, as shown, using that scant 1/4" seam again, and pressing the seam allowances towards the half triangle. Make twelve of this unit!...on to Page 2!
