Sew a Color 3 4-1/2" quarter square triangle to the left and right of a Color 1 stem unit, using scant 1/4" seams and pressing seams towards the triangles. Sew a Color 2 half square triangle to the bottom of this to make one corner unit. Make another unit like this, and then two more using Color 2 stems and Color 1 half square triangles. Trim these back to measure 4-1/2" if needed... |

Sew pairs of Color 1, Color 2 traps from the bottom up to the "V", stopping at a point 1/4" from the V. Sew a Color 3 5-1/4" quarter square triangle to the left side of this units, starting at the upper left, and stopping at the 1/4" previous stopping point. Now fold the units towards you to align the remaining un-sewn trap and triangle seam, and stitch from that stopping point to the outer edge. Make another unit like this, and two more with and Color 1 and Color 2 trap positions reversed. Trim these back to measure 4-1/2" if needed... |
