** Preparing the
Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
Let's Start with the only step there is, speed
piecing the half squares! Starting with the top left graphic at left--stack a Color 3 and
Color 1 2-3/8" x 9-1/2" strip right sides together and all edges aligned.
On the back of the top strip, mark off the 2-3/8" square lines. Then mark each
square's diagonal as shown at left. Now sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked
diagonals pivoting at the square lines... |
Cut apart on the square
lines, and on the marked diagonals between the lines of stitching. Press seam allowances
towards the darker fabric. Repeat this with a Color 4/Color 1 pair of strips, a
Color2/Color 3 pair, a Color 2/Color 4 pair, and again with the two LONG strips of Colors
1 + 2. Trim these squares back to 2" if needed... |
This will give you half squares as shown at left...
Now piece the half squares in rows, alternating
pressing directions with each addition. Press each subsequent row in opposing directions,
so that your seams will be staggered when you join the rows. Sew the rows together to make
the block, again alternating pressing directions with each addition!
