As shown at left, press under 1/4" on each long side of the stem strip...

Open one side back out and lay the pressed seam on the left lightly marked line on the 6-1/2" Color 4 square. Pin and sew on this line...

Now flip the stem over the stitching you just did, Pin in place, and hand appliqué the remaining long side...

Next place the Color 3  2-1/2" square right sides together in the lower left corner of the Color 4 square w/stem, over the stem end. Mark the diagonal on the back of the small square, and sew ON this marked diagonal. Cut off excess seam allowance, and press the remainder towards the small square...

Sew one unit of each sort shown at left. Make one horizontal group of three, and one vertical pair of two...

Sew the pair of two to the right side of  the Color 1  4-1/2" square. Press seam allowance towards the square...

Next sew the horizontal row of three half squares to the top of the previously made unit...

Then make one each of the units shown at left. Make one vertical row with points facing left, adding a Color 4  2-7/8" half square triangle at the top. Make one vertical row with points heading right, adding the other 2-7/8" half square triangle to it's top...on to Page 3!
