Starting with this very basic block, an Ohio Star, but with half squares in the corners...let's make a table runner! The runner will measure 63" x 18", plus the width of your chosen binding!

...and these are EASY! You can get several done for Christmas gifts!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Blocks **

I'll show here how to make one block...for the runner, you need four! Strips listed below are for the complete runner!

Start by placing the Color 3 and Color 2  4-7/8" x 9-3/4" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 4-7/8' square line. Mark the diagonals as shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Cut these apart on the square line, and on the diagonal lines between the rows of stitching. Press seam allowance towards the darker fabrics. These should measure 4-1/2"...

Then stack  the Color 3 and Color 1  5-1/4" x 10-1/2" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. Cut these into two  5-1/4" squares of each. Stack and cut these twice on the diagonal to make eight quarter square triangles of each. Sew pairs of these together to make eight pieced triangles like those at left. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabrics...

...on to Page 2!
