** Preparing
the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** |
First mark and cut one Color
1 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip into four 2-7/8" squares, then cut them again
on the diagonal to make eight half square triangles... |
Then mark and cut the Color 2
2-1/2" x 20" strip into eight 2-1/2" squares... |
Next mark and cut the Color 3
2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares... |
Next speed piece the half squares,
by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2 2-
7/8" x 11- 1/2" strips, right sides together and all edges
aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 2-7/8"
square lines and mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left.
Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals,
pivoting at the square lines. Now cut apart ON the marked diagonals,
and on the 2-7/8" square lines. This will give you eight half
squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 2-1/2"... |
Repeat this with the remaining
Color 2 2-7/8" x 11-1/2" strip and the Color 3 strip of the same size, to
make eight half squares... |
Then stack the Color 2 and Color
3 3-1/4" x 6-1/2" strips, right sides together, and speed piece in
the same manner to make four half squares. Cut each of these again on the diagonal to make
eight quarter square triangles... |
Sew each quarter square triangle
to a Color 1 half square triangle. Press seam allowances towards the Color 1
triangle. Trim these back if needed, to measure 2-1/2" square...on
to Page 2! |
