** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First cut the Color 3   3-1/2" x 7" strip into two 3-1/2" squares...

Then cut the Color1,2 + 3   4-1/4" squares in half on the diagonal. Stack the resultant triangles, and cut again on the other diagonal, to make four quarter square triangles of each...

Next mark and cut one of the Color 1 and 2  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips into two squares of each, then stack and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half squares triangles of each. You will only need three of each per block...

Now speed piece the half squares, by first stacking the Color 3 and Color 1  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strips, right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the diagonal, and mark the 3-7/8" square line also. Now sew a scant 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square line. Cut apart on the marked diagonals, and on the square line. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. This will give you four half squares. Trim to measure 3-1/2" if needed. Repeat this with the other Color 3 strip and the Color 2 strip...on to Page 2!
