** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by cutting the Color 1  3" x 30" strip into twenty-four 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles.

Then cut the Color 1  2-1/2" x 5" strip into two 2-1/2" squares.

Next cut the Color 1  1-1/2" x 30" strip into two 1-1/2" x 8-1/2" strips and two 1-1/2" x 6-1/2" strips...

Now cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares.

Cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 18" strip into four 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles.

...and cut the Color 2  2-1/2" x 34" strip into four 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" rectangles...

Sew together the Color 1 and Color 2  1-1/2" x 32" strips right sides together, along one long edge, using a scant 1/4" seam. Press seam to the darker side. Cut this into eight 2-1/2" wide pieced rectangles units and eight 1-1/2" wide pieced squares units...

Using a scant 1/4" seam allowance, now and throughout the block-making...next, sew a Color 1  1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangle to the left and then right sides of each Color 1/Color 2 pieced rectangles unit. Press seam towards the newly added rectangles. Make eight of these Unit A's in total...now on to Page 2!
