** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 1  3-1/2" x 10" strip into two 3-1/2" x 5" rectangles

Then mark and cut the Color 1  2" x 21" strip into six 2" x 3-1/2" rectangles...

Now mark and cut the Color 2  4" x 12" strip into twelve 2" squares...

Stack the Color 1 and Color 2  4-1/8" squares and cut twice on the diagonal to make four quarter square triangles of each...and now...

Make the flying geese units first, by placing the small Color 2 squares right sides together and edges aligned on one end of a Color 1 small rectangle.( I show them staggered only so you can see I am talking about two separate pieces of fabric) On the back of the small square, draw in the diagonal, and sew ON that drawn line. Cut off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the triangle. Remember! PRESS, don't IRON! Repeat this with another small square on the other end of the rectangle. Make six units like this...

Sew three flying geese units together, using the standard scant 1/4" seam allowance. Press seams towards triangle base. Make two units like this...

Now make the block's center quarter square, by sewing together two pairs of Color 1 and Color 2 quarter square triangles, pressing seams towards the darker side. Then sew  the two sides together. You only need ONE quarter square per block, so save the other triangles for later use...on to Page 2!
