** Preparing the Pieces and
Sewing the Block ** |
|
|
Start by cutting four 3-1/2"
corner squares from a common design area within your fabric. (If you
prefer, just cut four 3-1/2" squares from a 3-1/2" x
14" strip of Color 1) Cut one 6-1/2" center square... |
|
|
Then cut the Color 1 and Color 2 4" x
13" strips into four 2" x 6-1/2" rectangles of
each... |
|
|
Now cut the Color 2 4" x 16" strip
into sixteen 2" squares... |
|
|
Sew the rectangle pairs right sides together along the
long edge, using a SCANT 1/4" seam. Press the seam allowance
towards the darker fabric. Make four units like this... |
|
|
To sew the corner units, place a small Color 2 square
right sides together and edges aligned with a Color 1 3 1/2"
square.( I show them staggered here just so you can see I am working
with two separate pieces of fabric) On the back of the small square,
lightly draw the diagonal, and sew on this drawn line. Cut off the
excess seam allowance, and press the remaining seam allowance
towards the center square. Repeat this with another Color 2 square
on the opposing corner. Repeat again with two Color 2 squares on the
remaining two corners, pressing these last two additions towards the
corner triangles. Make four units like this...on to Page
