** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 2  2- 1/2" x 10" strip into four 2- 1/2" squares...

Then mark and cut the Color 3  2- 1/2" x 10" strip into four 2- 1/2" squares...

Next cut the Color 1  3- 7/8" square in half on the diagonal to make two half square triangles. Repeat this with the Color 3  3- 7/8" square. Cut the Color 2  3- 7/8" x 7- 3/4" strip into two 3- 7/8" squares. Stack these, and then cut them in half on the diagonal to get four half square triangles...

Now speed piece the smaller half squares by stacking the Color 1 and Color 3  2- 7/8" x 11- 1/2" strips right sides together and all edges aligned. On the back of the top strip lightly mark the 2- 7/8" lines, then mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Sew a SCANT 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals, pivoting at the square lines. Cut apart on the square lines, and on the diagonal lines between the rows of stitching. This will give you eight half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. Trim to 2-1/2" if needed...

Sew a Color 1 half square triangle to a Color 2 half square triangle. Press seam towards darker fabric. Make two of these. Sew a Color 2 half square triangle to a Color 3 half square triangle. Press seam towards darker fabric. Make two of these also...
