This makes an 8" block ! 

Time to Use Up Some Scraps!! This block uses DARK scraps at least 4-7/8" square, and 2-7/8" square, and LIGHT scraps at least 2-1/2" square and 2-7/8" square.

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block ** 

From two dark 4-7/8" squares cut half square triangles. You need two different colored triangles of this size. From four dark 2-7/8" squares cut half square triangles. You need four different colored triangles of this size...( You'll save the other triangles cut for other blocks!)

Now cut six light 2-1/2" squares. From eight light 2-7/8" squares cut half square triangles. You need eight different colored triangles of this size...

Sew pairs of light and dark 2-7/8" half square triangles together in a scant 1/4" seam. Press seams to dark sides. Trim to measure 2-1/2" if needed. You need four of these half squares in total...

Now sew two units from those smaller half squares and 2-1/2" light squares...

Sew two of the remaining light half square triangles to the top and bottom of a 2-1/2" light square. Add a larger dark half square triangles. Press seam to dark side. Make two units like this...on to Page 2!
