** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  9-7/8" squares, and cutting them once on the diagonal. You will need only 1 triangle of each color per block you want to make, so save the second set for later or another use!

Sew a pair of these triangles right sides together, using a 1/4" seam. Press the seam allowances towards the darker fabric...

Now mark and cut the Color 2  3-1/2" x 22-1/2" strip into two 3-1/2" x 9-1/2" rectangles, and one 3-1/2" square...

Next speed piece the half squares, by stacking the Color 1 and Color 2  3-7/8" x 15-1/2" strips right sides together and all edges even. On the back of the top strip, lightly mark the 3-7/8" square lines. Mark the diagonals in the direction shown at left. Now sew 1/4" above and below the marked diagonals. Cut apart on the marked diagonals and on the square lines to get eight half squares. Press seam allowances towards the darker fabric. These should measure 3-1/2"...on to Page 2!
