It is regularly pieced, but see below for links to paper piecing templates as well!

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

First cut two Color 1  2-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles, and two Color 1  1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles...

Then mark and cut the Color 2  1-1/2" x 6" strip into four 1-1/2" squares. Also cut one Color 2  2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangle...

Place Color 2 small squares lined up with, and right sides together against the upper corners of the Color 1 large rectangle. On the back of the small squares draw a diagonal line in the directions shown, and sew on these drawn lines. Cut off the excess seam allowances, and press the remainder towards the rectangle. Make two units like this...

Sew the two smaller Color 1 rectangles to each end of the larger Color 2 rectangle, pressing seams towards the outer rectangles...

Now piece the block, pressing seams towards the upper rectangles. Your first American Chain block is now ready for signing! :o)           ...on to Page 2 !
