** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

Start by marking and cutting the Color 2  1-1/2" x 6" strip into four 1-1/2" squares...

Now mark and cut the Color 1 and Color 2  3-1/4" x 6-1/2" strips into two 3-1/4" squares of each. Stack these and cut them twice on the diagonal t make eight quarter square triangles of each...

Cut the Color 3  5-1/4" square in half twice on the diagonal to make four quarter square triangles...

Next mark and cut the Color 3  2-1/2" x 10" strip into four 2-1/2" squares...

Using a 1/4" seam, sew the Color 1 and Color 2 quarter square triangles together to make four each of the two triangle pairs shown at left...

Sew the triangle pairs to the slant sides to the Color 3 triangles. Trim these back to measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" if needed. Make four units like this...

Place a small Color 2 square right sides together against one corner of the Color 3  4-1/2" square, with outside edges aligned. ( I show them staggered here just so you can see what fabric units I am talking about) Draw in the diagonal on the back of the small square and sew ON this drawn line. Cut off the excess seam allowance, pressing the remainder towards the corner. Repeat this with the other three corners of the Color 3 square , to make the block's center unit. This unit should measure 4-1/2"...on to Page 2!
